Wylee Nelson, a deeply loved, fiercely hardworking, and exceptionally generous 29-year-old resident of Faith, South Dakota, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
Known throughout the region as a relentless competitor on the football field, a skilled team roping partner, and a dedicated logistics professional with Nelson Trucking, Wylee was an absolute pillar of strength for his family. Described as “the calm to the storm” and a man who would gladly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, his sudden departure leaves a profound, heartbreaking void across the close-knit agricultural and ranching communities of western South Dakota.

A Faith Longhorn Legend and Rodeo Competitor
Wylee grew up rooted in the traditions of Faith, South Dakota, where he developed a legendary work ethic and a deep love for the outdoors early in life.
As a standout student-athlete at Faith High School, Wylee was a dominant force on the gridiron. Graduating with the Class of 2015, he wore Jersey #28 for the Faith Varsity Longhorns Football program. Playing both as a gritty Running Back (RB) and a punishing Linebacker (LB), Wylee helped anchor historic winning seasons, securing high state and regional rankings through his relentless execution, lightning speed, and team-first leadership.
Beyond the football field, Wylee was deeply passionate about Western heritage, establishing himself as a highly respected cowboy and an exceptional team roping partner alongside his older sibling. He approached the arena and the open range with the same humility, grit, and passion that defined his character.
A Beautiful Love and Built-In Brotherhood
While Wylee achieved much as an athlete and a talented “fix-it man” who could repair anything put in front of him, his greatest pride lay in the life he was building with his family.
On September 6, 2025, surrounded by their closest loved ones in Faith, Wylee married his soulmate and the love of his life, Jaclyn. Though their beautiful marriage lasted a brief 312 days before his passing, their bond spanned a deep, foundational decade of growing up together and three years of profound romance. Wylee was an incredibly attentive, protective, and adoring husband who stood as an unshakeable rock for his wife.
To his family, he was a built-in best friend. As a younger brother, he was someone to be looked up to, commanding a work ethic most people could only dream of. He was a legendary uncle who adored his nieces and nephews, constantly filling their lives with wrestling matches, water fights, golf outings, and toy boxes—creating precious memories that they will carry forward for the rest of their lives.
Surviving Family and Tributes
Wylee’s vibrant light, cowboy spirit, and unwavering loyalty will be carried forward forever by:
-
His beloved wife, Jaclyn Nelson
-
His loving sister and roping partner, Tearnee Lee Nelson, and her children
-
His parents and the extended Nelson Trucking family framework
-
A vast brotherhood of rodeo cowboys, former Faith Longhorn teammates, and lifelong South Dakota friends.
His family takes comfort in their faith, knowing that while 29 years was far too short, Wylee now commands the best seat in the house from above.
